Antigymnastique at Golborne Place...

First ever UK workshop!

We are very pleased to have welcomed Andrzej Szkandera to the Golborne Place studio this last weekend to give a number of 3 hour workshops on the technique of Antigymnastique. Andrzej is the very first teacher to bring this movement therapy to the UK so we are privileged to have had him here with us!

Antigymnastique is described as a 'unique method of body work comprised of subtle but powerful
movements'. Over the course of the sessions participants regain mobility, vitality, health and independence. Explained as a 'voyage through one's body and its history' Antigymnastique  draws attention to how the body has quietly reorganised, adapted and protected itself over time.

During the sessions participants are led towards a reawakening and rediscovery of parts of the body,
initially some of the muscles engaged seem foreign, little by little new connections develop between the
poorly known muscles and the brain as muscular vocabulary becomes richer, new possibilities of movement are discovered. Contractions, stiffness and muscular joint pains that shrink and restrain the body disappear allowing the body's movement to regain natural amplitude.

Andrzej's background belongs to the theatrical world as he spent time as an actor as well as theatre director. Andrzej has found the Antigymnastique ® movement therapy to be useful in developing the body awareness of actors. He is currently the Director of the Municipal Theather School in Segovia, Spain and is a certified Shiatsu practitioner, Chi Kung teacher and Chiromassage therapist.
